Melissa + Sean are Engaged!

It is said that Chemistry plays a big roll in relationships, and I would have to agree that it's true! If anyone knows anything about Chemistry, it's Melissa! At our initial consult with Melissa & Sean we learned that Melissa is getting her PHD and thoroughly studying Salmonella. Though I can't say I know a lot about Salmonella, I can say that it's apparent that Melissa & Sean's Chemistry is strong, and Melissa seems to be an expert at making Sean smile!:)

We met up with these two on State Street for our last shoot of the day on Friday, we were ecstatic of course that mother nature was cooperating with us yet again!

Melissa & Sean were a lot of fun to work with, and we were loving all the colors and urban feel that State Street had to offer. Melissa & Sean-I can't wait to work with you again next month!

Ben & Lori are Engaged!

As Derrick & I walked from our car to the Monona Terrace rooftop to meet Ben and Lori large gusts of wind came at us, making it not only difficult to walk, but also making us question if the session would be cancelled due to the weather. Luckily though, the storm held off so that we could get some great shots of Ben & Lori on the rooftop and entrance of the Terrace.

Derrick knew Ben a bit from Whitewater, as Ben too is a videographer. So when we heard that Ben was getting married we were honored that he and Lori were considering us to shoot their wedding. We always love working with other creative individuals.
It will also be interesting to shoot Ben & Lori's wedding as Brian, one of our other shooters, is Ben's best man. I am sure Derrick will have a great time seeing Brian on the other side of the camera.

Here's just a few of Lori & Ben's shots. You have to love the way they smile at each-other, and the way Ben makes Lori laugh.

Kari + Travis are Engaged

I met Kari & Travis this January at the Wedding Planner & Guide Show. After talking to them about their wedding and getting to know them a bit more at the show I was ecstatic to be working with them as it seemed like a great fit for us as well as them. And we always love working with fellow UW Whitewater Alums.

When Kari called us last Friday prior to us going into a consultation we realized that somehow the time that we had her shoot down for didn't match up with what she had. We felt awful, but Kari assured us it wasn't a big deal and told us that her and Travis would hang out for awhile. These guys are truly the nicest, most laid back couple you will meet.
We had a great time walking around the Memorial Union and Library Mall and getting some great shots of these two. We always start our sessions out telling our couples that we will be posing them, but the more they ad lib and "are in love" the more natural their pictures will be. Some couples do better at this then others. Kari & Travis however did fabulous from the beginning, adding lib, and doing a great job of being in love for the cameras. Kari & Travis, I can't wait to work with you both this June. -April

Amy + Peter are Engaged!

We woke last Friday to dark skies, and rain.. this was worrisome considering we had four engagement sessions scheduled for the afternoon. Luckily the rain held off for all four sessions, with some occasional raindrops in-between the shoots.

First up was Amy & Peter! We met Amy & her Mom this winter and clicked with Amy right away. Being a bit over-compulsive with being organized and planning myself I could see that Amy & her Mom were going to be a great fit for us.
These two ladies have an extraordinary wedding planned at Quiveys Grove later this fall, with what sounds like gorgeous flowers and linens...it truly sounds like we will be in for capturing a great wedding.
Friday was the first time that we had met Peter, but it was apparent that he too was going to be great to work with, with his laid back personality.

Derrick & I had a great time walking around Olbrich gardens with Amy & Peter and hearing more about what they have planned and capturing some great shots of them! We also may or may not have trespassed at a nearby abandoned feed mill to get some fun urban shots!

Amy & Peter, I look forward to working with you again this fall! -April

5-9-09 Kathy & Evan are Married!

Being relaxed and laid back on your wedding day is something most couples say they want to do, but few are able to pull it off, at least as well as Kathy & Evan did. We’re sure deep down somewhere they were feeling some stress and some nerves, but they managed to hide it (even from us). On this breezy spring day, we both had the opportunity to photograph their wedding. Which not only makes for far more photoas, but different angles and perspectives of the same moments. Plus, we always love shooting together! Kathy & Evan were married in Portage and held their reception at Chula Vista in the Wisconsin Dells. In between the Ceremony and Reception we stopped off and shot against some really cool walls in down town Portage, and Kathy and Evan were even brave enough to climb the fire escape with their entire wedding party, barely even hesitating when we asked them if they would. Kathy was definitely a trooper when it came to photos even though it was a bit on the brisk side. The combination of them being so relaxed, having fun with photos and of course being in love added up to what we feel are some really great shots from their wedding day. Below are samples from their collection. Congratulations again guys and thanks for have us document your day!

Photo Guestbooks...

Photo Guests Books are something we’ve been doing for years now, but it seems like they’re becoming ever so more popular lately. And we think they should be, they just make more sense than a plain book that everyone signs and then you toss in a box somewhere in the attic (we’re speaking from experience on this one). Photo guests books are personal, guests like looking through them, and best of all it’s a convenient and tasteful way to bring together and display a lot of your favorite shots from your engagement session. In the past we haven’t taken the time to show off some of the cool albums and books we create for our clients like we probably should, and we wanted to start doing that so here’s some shots of Kathy & Evan’s book in action from this past weekend.

Sawyer is 7 months Old!

No this isn’t Brandon (from the previous posting) living a double life, it’s his twin brother Nathan along with Brianne and their now 7 month old son, Sawyer. It’s crazy how quick kids grow. Before long he’ll be running around with our son playing crazy games, imagining amazing things in one of our backyards. These guys are also long time friends of ours and we’re honored they continue to have us take their photos, especially considering Nathan has an art degree and a critical eye for this sort of stuff. Here are a couple of photos from their session.

Brandon & Sam are Engaged!

When I got the call from Brandon last year I was both excited for him and amazed that he was going to be ‘settling down.’ Sam and him have been together for some time and she’s great, so that wasn’t the surprise. But having lived next to him in the dorms during our time at college, and sharing an apartment with him for a year after that I had gotten to know a very unsettled and crazy side of ‘Brando’. And I guess it’s fitting seeing as how I was the one who got to shoot all of that embarrassing video of him during that time, that now I get to shoot this important moment for him and Sam. All kidding aside, we’re excited to be shooting both photo and video for their wedding at the end of May. We had a chance to get together to shoot a couples session with the two of them this past week. Below are some photos from their session. -Derrick
